I have my doubts about Liverpool and there are question marks over Mohamed Salah

Liverpool have been told why uncertainty remains over their Premier League title challenge – with doubts sounded over Mohamed Salah’s ability to keep ignoring speculation regarding his future. The Reds have enjoyed a hugely impressive start to life under new head coach Arne Slot and stand five points clear at the Premier League summit after 11 games.

Champions Manchester City are in second place, while expected title contenders Arsenal’s indifferent run of form has seen them held at home to a 2-2 draw by Liverpool and subsequently fall nine points adrift of the leaders.

After Slot’s side resume their Premier League campaign at rock-bottom Southampton on Sunday, they face a tough run of games with the visit of City followed by trips to Newcastle United and neighbours Everton.

And while former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur forward Teddy Sheringham believes the Reds are “looking fantastic”, he has pointed to the unknown factor of Slot and his first managerial job in England.

“The Premier League title is going to be between Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal,” said Sheringham, a three-time Premier League winner. “I can’t see any other team performing consistently enough to break into that group and challenge.

“Liverpool are looking fantastic at the moment, but I think they’ll have their little troughs. Manchester City, they’re going to come good again at some stage. Arsenal are the other ones in the title hunt as well, and they will want to close the gap quickly so that they’re not out of the race as wel”I think the good point from Arsenal is that it’s Liverpool out in front and not Man City because Man City are the ones that know how to close things and Liverpool are still under a new manager.

I don’t think anyone could say with certainty that they will win the league because you’re not sure what you’re going to get from them over the entire season with it being Arne Slot’s first campaign at the club.”

Salah has once again been a key figure for Liverpool this season, and last time out became the first player to 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions in Europe’s leading leagues by reaching the landmark in 17 games.

And when asked for his player of the season to date, Sheringham selected the Egyptian but made note of the ongoing lack of resolution to the player’s contract situation which at present would see him leave on a free next summer.
