Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk says he is confident his and his team’s struggles last season will be temporary. The Reds have played more games than second-placed Arsenal and lead the Premier League table with 42 points.
Liverpool finished fifth last season and Van Dijk’s poor form was one of the reasons United looked so poor last season.
The Dutchman and the team are back to their best and admit they feel much better and more comfortable this season as everything is going according to plan. He admitted that last season was difficult mentally as he had never experienced such a decline in individual performance and team decline.
But the defender insists his poor form is only a problem for himself and Liverpool. Van Dijk Algemeen Dagblad (via Voetbal Primeur):
“Everything is going well again. I feel good. “It frees me from my head.”
When things don’t go your way, you start thinking because you want to do everything you can to change the situation.
“It wasn’t easy mentally. “I was shocked personally and as a team when things didn’t go that way last season, I’ve never experienced that before.
“At the same time, I was always convinced that it was temporary.”
Liverpool beat Burnley 2-0 on Boxing Day and then faced Newcastle United at Anfield on New Year’s Day.
