Ian Wright has admitted that Mohamed Salah “shut him up” after he took jabs at the Liverpool forward at half-time of the 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday. Salah scored the equalising goal 10 minutes from time to hand the Reds a share of the spoils at the Emirates.
But the Egyptian had endured a difficult opening 45 minutes with Arsenal dominant and leading 2-1 with goals from Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino either side of Virgil van Dijk’s header.
And Wright, who scored 185 goals in 288 games for Arsenal, admitted that his words came back to haunt him after he taunted Salah as “No Salah” in the studio of Premier League productions at half-time of the fixture.
He said: “Brilliant for him. Well done Mo. But that’s what he does doesn’t he? Shuts you up. Shut me up.”
Newcastle great and all-time Premier League top scorer Alan Shearer also had praise for Salah’s influence on the match, as the Liverpool forward scored his 11th goal in 15 games against the Gunners.
It moves the 32-year-old level with Robbie Fowler with 163 Premier League goals, eighth on the all-time top scorers list.
Shearer said: “Mohamed Salah didn’t touch the ball a lot, he wasn’t as involved as he would like or want to be. But whilst he’s on the pitch, you’re always going to have that opportunity. Why would you take your best goal scorer off?
