INTEREST in Nunez, Wrexham DREAMING of Reds player: Liverpool FC news recap

The fallout from Darwin Nunez’s antics following Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday continues.

The Uruguayan, after heading straight for the tunnel after the final whistle, then followed that up by purging his Instagram of all posts made during his time at the club. He also blocked a number of Liverpool-related accounts on Twitter.

Now, Nunez is being linked with a move away from the club, with Barcelona reportedly having had contact with Nunez’s representatives over a summer move.

However, another Spanish side is also poised ahead of the transfer window.

Jermain Defoe, ninth on the list of all-time Premier League goalscorers, said the Reds risk “falling behind” if they persist with Darwin Nunez up top.

“I think Jota is probably the best finisher,” Defoe told Premier League Productions. “He actually finishes, like calculated finishes. Salah and Nunez, they ‘shoot’, if that makes sense. They don’t finish.”

Rio Ferdinand has leapt to the defence of Mohamed Salah, who has faced relentless criticism over the past number of weeks.

“I think he’s been disrespected recently,” he said,

That said, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes the club should prioritise keeping Virgil van Dijk over Mohamed Salah as exit links continue to swirl over the superstar pair.

“I actually think the more important signing to keep is Van Dijk,” he said.

“I know that sounds a bit silly because of Salah’s goals but Liverpool don’t struggle to make chances.”

“Look at the bigger picture and what he’s done for this football club and it is fantastic,” Keane told Sky Sports in his role as pundit.

Cody Gakpo admits he’s ‘curious’ as to what kind of impact incoming head coach Arne Slot might make at Liverpool.

“I know, of course, that he is a very good coach who has shown it at AZ Alkmaar and at Feyenoord, too,” Gakpo said of Slot.

“Of course, we played against [his Feyenoord] a few times; they were often difficult games.”
