Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney has admitted that Liverpool are a ‘frightening’ team just now.

Despite last weekend’s loss against Arsenal, the Reds are going well in all four competitions at the moment. Cairney’s Fulham have been on the wrong end of that recently, narrowly beaten across two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

And speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast this week, Cairney has praised the quality in Liverpool’s current squad while also sounding a warning to Arsenal.

“I think that game at the weekend was huge for Arsenal, I think that’s why the celebrations were so big,” explained the 33-year-old.

“In my opinion if they had lost that game I don’t think they would have much chance of catching Liverpool, I can’t see them losing three or four more games until the end of the season with the squad they have got, it’s frightening.

“So I think you could tell how big it was for Arsenal. Arsenal will be up there but I think it’s Liverpool or Man City’s.”

Cairney praises Liverpool depth

This is an interesting little insight into how Liverpool are viewed amongst fellow Premier League clubs and players.

Obviously, Cairney’s co-host on the podcast, Michail Antonio, has already expressed his views on the Reds a number of times this season. He hasn’t been anything like as effusive.

But Antonio’s stance feels more like a personal grudge. You’d imagine that the Fulham midfielder’s take is something more akin to how most rival players see Liverpool.

In fairness to Cairney as well, the Cottagers tend to give Klopp’s side a good game whenever they come up against them. The Liverpool boss hasn’t won in his last three visits to Craven Cottage, for instance.

So, you can only imagine that if he’s frightened by Reds’ strength in depth, then others must be downright terrified.

Unfortunately, that depth is being tested just a little right now. We already know that both Thiago Alcantara and Dominik Szoboszlai are facing spells on the sidelines.

News coming out today has also put Joe Gomez as another absentee during training yesterday.

Nevertheless, those kinds of things are exactly why Liverpool have the squad that they do. Resources obviously help to bring all that together, but you still have to use them wisely. Under Klopp, the Reds have done that to assemble a fearsome looking group.
