Jerry Jones addresses whether Trey Lance could start for Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have not won a game since Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury, but Jerry Jones does not seem to think a quarterback change would help improve the situation.

The Cowboys were blown out on Monday night for a second consecutive week, this time in a 34-10 loss to the Houston Texans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Though the results did not reflect it, Cooper Rush played fairly well. The seventh-year veteran finished 32/55 for 354 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Some have wondered if the Cowboys might try to create a spark by giving Trey Lance an opportunity to start. Jones was asked about that during his Tuesday appearance on 105.3 The Fan’s “Shan & RJ” show, and he did not seem in favor of the switch.

“I thought Rush actually had improvement last night from the game before. He didn’t have far to get improvement, but I did think he did have improvement,” Jones said. “Frankly, there were times in that ballgame that I thought it was really coming to it. We know we’ve got limited time to work with these quarterbacks at this particular time, and I would look for us to stay with the experience.”

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters on Monday night that he regretted not giving Lance a series near the end of the game, which led to some speculation that Dallas could insert the former No. 3 overall pick into the starting lineup in Week 12 against the Washington Commanders.

Jones recently sounded like he was pushing for Lance to have a bigger role after Prescott’s injury. For now, however, the Cowboys are sticking with Rush.
