Liverpool defender could exit club this summer.
Liverpool’s outgoing goalkeeper coach John Achterberg has hinted that centre-back may depart Anfield this summer.
Achterberg, who has been with the club for 14 years, is one of several members of Jurgen Klopp’s backroom team to leave at the end of the season.
After his long tenure at Anfield, Achterberg has decided to move on and is set to reunite with Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia.
He was part of the post-match presentation following Sunday’s victory over Wolves in the Premier League.
Despite spending the season on loan, Nathaniel Phillips attended the match.
Initially loaned to Celtic, he struggled for regular playing time before joining Cardiff City in January.
Phillips showcased impressive performances in the Championship, leaving open the possibility of a permanent transfer when the window opens.
“I had a brief conversation with the loan manager at Liverpool,” he told the BBC last month.
“There is so much going on at the club. There’s a lot of change going on at Liverpool so there’s a lot up in the air there.
“There is a lot to sort out. Once things start to unfold, I’ll be able to build a bit more of a picture of what I see my plan for the future is.”
Phillips has recently turned to social media to express his gratitude to Klopp, claiming: “Thank you Boss, for showing belief in me, and for giving me the opportunity and privilege to represent Liverpool.
“I’ll be forever grateful for the experiences I’ve had and the moments we have shared together.”
Achterberg was among the Liverpool figures who liked and commented on the post, with his response suggesting the possibility of a transfer.
He wrote: “You are a good defender Nat! Good luck in your next move.”
Phillips still has two years left on his contract, giving Liverpool the leverage to demand a fee for the 27-year-old.
Leeds and Cardiff are reportedly interested in securing his services, although Leeds’ divisional status for the upcoming season remains unconfirmed.
