Jurgen Klopp could sign his own Rodri for Liverpool in £322,000 star

The January transfer window is fast approaching and Liverpool could be tempted back into the market to strengthen their squad as they compete for the Premier League title. Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently second in the division and next month could provide an opportunity to strengthen the squad ahead of the second half of the season. Last summer, the Daily Mail reported that LIverpool had a long-standing interest in Bayern Munich superstar Joshua Kimmich and were prepared to complete a deal if he was available.

As reported by Sport BILD recently, the German international’s contract expires in 2025, so he is no longer an option for the Bayern team. Now Klopp can put pressure on Bayern to sign a defensive midfielder in one of the next two windows so he can land his own Manchester City star Rodri.

The Spain international is a rock in the heart of City’s team, displaying excellent off-the-ball play in the back four.Over the past 365 days, Rodri has ranked in the top 4% of men’s Big 5 and European leagues for assists (8.81) and attempts per 90 (95.76). It shows that the former Atletico Madrid striker is an excellent passer who can not only dictate the pace of the game with the number of passes he makes, but also develop his team with linear passes up the pitch. The 27-year-old has also shown his defensive prowess in 14 Premier League appearances, recording 3.2 tackles, 7.2 tackles and 7.2 clearances per game, with the talented gem regularly disrupting opposition attacks. Statistics show that Kimmich is similar to Rodri. Liverpool can immediately sign Rodri’s replica to bring Kimmich to Anfield. Because the German master has similar qualities to the Spanish player.

He is an outstanding passer who can contribute to a £322,000-a-week wage that Jose Mourinho once praised as “phenomenal”. Over the last 365 days, Kimmich has ranked in the top 3% of players in the men’s Big 5 and European leagues for assists (9.47) and attempts (87.32) per 90 minutes. This shows that the Bayern star moves the ball up the pitch more often through passes than Rodri, despite attempting fewer passes overall. However, the 28-year-old ace is a little behind City’s defenders when it comes to the defensive aspect of his game. Kimmich has averaged 2.8 shots, 1 interception and 6.3 rebounds per game in 11 Bundesliga games this season. These stats show that Liverpool’s goalkeeper can be great defensively, winning the team possession consistently, although not as often as Rodri.

Overall, Bayern’s metronome is similar to Pep Guardiola’s star midfield in terms of what he can offer on and off the ball, so Klopp should make a move for him in January or next summer.
