The Premier League announced last Friday that the Toffees had been penalised after an independent commission found they broke profit and sustainability rules. They were dropped to second bottom of the table after a 10-point deduction was imposed on them.
Everton reacted with fury, releasing an explosive statement in which they announced their intention to appeal. Ahead of his side’s trip to Manchester City, who have 115 charges of rule breaches hanging over them, Klopp admitted he would also have appealed a deduction. “I’m absolutely not in the subject to be honest. Did I know that there was a [appeal]? No, I don’t think I knew it,” Klopp said when asked about Everton’s deduction in his press conference on Friday.
“I just heard about it, the 10 points. There was a lot of discussion. I heard they will appeal it. That’s it. Everybody would do that probably but that’s all I can say about it.”
Jurgen Klopp has admitted he would follow Everton’s strategy and appeal if Liverpool were handed a points deduction like their bitter rivals.
