Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool boss, is on Real Madrid’s radar should the Spanish team part ways with Carlo Ancelotti.
The 57-year-old, who left Liverpool earlier this year, was recently announced as Red Bull’s new head of global soccer starting in January. This decision has caused a stir in Germany, where he is revered by fans of his previous clubs, Borussia Dortmund and Mainz.
Despite his new role, rumours continue to circulate about a potential return to management. He’s been linked with the Germany national team job, and it’s even suggested that he requested an exit clause in his contract for this specific position
However, Klopp also has admirers within club football, and a manager of his stature would undoubtedly be attractive to Madrid, who is considering Ancelotti’s future. This is according to Mundo Deportivo, although the Spanish outlet suggests Klopp is unlikely to entertain any offers having just committed to Red Bull.
Ancelotti is facing increasing pressure in Spain despite guiding Madrid to La Liga and Champions League triumphs last season. Saturday’s match against Osasuna could be pivotal for the Italian, with Raul and Alvaro Arbeloa, both still associated with their old club, also being considered.
Madrid’s top prospect to fill the manager’s spot is none other than the suave Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso; and word has it the Spanish club wouldn’t mind appointing an interim coach in the meantime. Klopp has addressed his decision to join forces with Red Bull during a candid chat on Toni Kroos’ podcast: “You cannot make your decision depending on what reactions there will be.
“I did not want to step on anyone’s toes. I love all my former clubs, but I don’t know what I could have done so that everyone is happy. I am 57 and can still work a few more years, but I did not see myself on the sidelines for now. It was clear for me that I would do something – so then Red Bull came.
