Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Jurgen Klopp sending a warning to the Red Devils ahead of their clash with Arsenal.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp warned Manchester United, they will be destroyed by Arsenal if they replicate their performance at Old Trafford against the Gunners.
Klopp’s side rocked up to the Theatre of Dreams eyeing a victory to leapfrog into the Premier League’s top spot. They kicked off strong with Luis Diaz netting an early goal, but United flipped the script as Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo’s wonder goals, left Liverpool lagging until Mohamed Salah’s late penalty secured a 2-2 draw.
The draw didn’t hoist Liverpool to the summit though; they’re parked in second, neck and neck on points with table-toppers Arsenal but trailing on goal difference. With the title tussle heating up between Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City, and seven matches left, the pressure’s mounting.
United could play kingmaker if they topple the Gunners come their mid-May clash. But Klopp’s not banking on any favours from United’s camp.
Quizzed about whether he’d be rooting for the Red Devils against Arsenal, Klopp quipped: “Probably, If we are still around then that would be great”, reports the Mirror. “But Arsenal are a good football team. If they [United] play like today, Arsenal will win the game, I am 100% sure. I am sorry to say that.”
Despite facing United three times this season, Liverpool have yet to secure a victory. Two league draws and a shocking 4-3 defeat in the FA Cup quarter-final have made United a thorn in Klopp’s side this term.
Reflecting on the recent encounters, the Liverpool boss admitted his team should have emerged victorious in both matches. Further commenting on Sunday’s result, Klopp said: “I’m not over the moon about it.
“It’s not the best result I have ever seen but I am fine with it. You shouldn’t do what we do today constantly, that won’t be enough. Definitely not. But we know that.
“We want to be there after the last matchday. It’s obviously better to be there the whole time and have distance between you and the others. But we will keep going with all that we have.”
