The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball program has added a new wrinkle to its upcoming season, officially unveiling the BBN United Tipoff Classic — a three-game home series in November featuring matchups against Nicholls State, Valparaiso, and Eastern Illinois. The announcement came Monday, adding further clarity to Kentucky’s non-conference schedule for the 2025–26 campaign.
Kentucky will open its season on November 4 at Rupp Arena against Nicholls State, marking the first-ever meeting between the Wildcats and the Colonels. Just three days later, on November 7, Kentucky will welcome Valparaiso to Lexington for the third all-time meeting between the two schools. The Wildcats hold a 2–0 edge in the series, winning their previous encounters handily. Rounding out the Tipoff Classic, Kentucky will face Eastern Illinois on November 14, another first-time matchup in program history. Game times and broadcast information will be announced in the coming weeks, but fans can already start marking their calendars for what should be an exciting opening stretch to the season.
While the games themselves promise plenty of intrigue, the bigger picture is that the Tipoff Classic will serve as a showcase event for BBN United, the newly launched official fan club of UK Athletics. Developed in partnership with fan experience company Two Circles and UK’s long-standing multimedia rights partner, JMI Sports, BBN United is designed to strengthen the connection between the Wildcats and their massive fan base — known collectively as Big Blue Nation.
Through the program, members will gain access to limited-edition merchandise, exclusive digital content, and unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences tied to Kentucky’s athletic programs. The BBN United Tipoff Classic will be one of the first opportunities for members to take part in fan-focused events and activations surrounding game days. Kentucky head coach Mark Pope, preparing for his first season at the helm, will get a valuable early look at his new roster through these November contests. Nicholls State, which has developed into a consistent contender in the Southland Conference, will bring a tough, guard-oriented style to Rupp. Valparaiso, now competing in the Missouri Valley Conference, has a long history of producing upsets and is sure to test Kentucky’s early-season chemistry. Eastern Illinois, out of the Ohio Valley Conference, will provide a different challenge with its physical, defensive-minded approach.
For the Wildcats, these games are about more than just notching wins. They are an opportunity to experiment with rotations, implement new offensive and defensive schemes, and give younger players critical minutes in front of one of the most passionate fan bases in the country. The timing is also ideal, with the Tipoff Classic serving as a bridge from preseason hype to the rigorous non-conference slate that includes marquee matchups and, eventually, the SEC grind.
From a scheduling standpoint, this announcement nearly completes Kentucky’s 2025–26 calendar. With the Tipoff Classic dates set, the only remaining pieces to confirm are Big Blue Madness, the annual preseason celebration that serves as the Wildcats’ unofficial season kickoff, and the Blue-White Game, the intrasquad scrimmage that gives fans their first in-person look at the year’s roster.
