Kompany left frustrated with referee as Jurgen Klopp backs up Burnley manager’s reaction

Vincent Kompany believes Jurgen Klopp’s yellow card led to his own in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Burnley. Klopp was cautioned by referee Tim Robinson after fouling Diogo Jota at Anfield but was not awarded a penalty.

Kompany received his third yellow card of the season after being booked by the referee and will be ruled out for next weekend’s match between Burnley and Arsenal. After the Premier League suffered their 17th defeat of the season, he said Klopp’s warning prompted Robinson to warn him. “I think I got the yellow card because the referee saw me coming at him and he should have focused on getting the yellow card,” Kompany said in his post-match response. ”

“I’ve now been suspended for the next game [against Arsenal],” he added. Klopp himself questioned the reason for the yellow card and even jokingly referred to reports that the recent introduction of the blue card could lead to a sin. “Imagine if the referee gave you a blue card in this game.” -He said. “I didn’t know why Vincent Kompany got that award. “We lost very well so please give us a yellow card.”
