Kylian Mbappe ‘tells Paris Saint-Germain he will leave this summer’

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has announced he will leave the Parc des Princes this summer. The 25-year-old’s future has been up for debate in the transfer market in recent years as Real Madrid have fought tooth and nail to bring him to the Bernabeu.

Los Blancos tried their luck with a €200m (£171.1m) bid at the end of 2021, but although it fell through, a free move to the Spanish capital in 2022 looks likely. But after impressing Real Madrid, Mbappe put pen to paper on a new contract with Les Parisiens, pledging to run until 2024, with the French champions offering him the option to extend his future by a further year.

But last summer, Mbappe told PSG he had no intention of activating his 12-month contract extension, leaving the Parisians at risk of losing him at the end of the season after they failed to sign his release.

Mbappe was suspended from the squad ahead of his reinstatement and PSG have not given up hope of agreeing a new contract for their former Monaco pupil, but the long streak looks set to come to an end.

According to The Athletic and several other media outlets, Mbappe has previously assured PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he will not go on a free transfer and will pack his bags when his contract expires in June.

According to the report, the terms of Mbappe’s departure from PSG have yet to be fully agreed, but the club is expected to officially announce his departure once all parties agree to his release. Mbappe’s recent departure from the Parc des Princes will allow the French champions to save £171.1m in annual wages as the club look to replace him with young talent.

PSG, who used the famous trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Mbappe for two seasons, are reluctant to sign famous superstars after the two players left for Inter Miami and Al Hilal respectively last year. Real Madrid remain the main suitors to sign Mbappe this summer, but the forward’s camp are unhappy with Los Blancos’ latest contract offer, delaying a decision on the 25-year-old.

However, confidence remains that Mbappe will wear the famous white stripes in the 2024-2025 season and beyond. That’s because neither Liverpool nor Arsenal, who he is believed to be open to, are expected to break their wage structures to sign him. To the Premier League.

Mbappe moved to PSG seven years after joining PSG on loan in 2017, a year before the transfer, for £163 million, the second most expensive transfer fee in the world after Neymar.

The French World Cup winner scored 243 goals and provided 105 assists in 290 games for PSG during that time and won five Ligue 1 titles at the Parc des Princes.

Mbappe is yet to win the Champions League with PSG but achieved his goal on Wednesday night as Luis Enrique’s side beat Real Sociedad 2-0 in the first leg of their last 16 tie.
