In what was one of the most impactful moves in college football history, legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban retired from coaching following the 2023 season.
Not only did the sport lose the best to ever do it, but it caused a chain reaction of coaching and transfer portal moves that shaped the sport for the foreseeable future. However, while the sport of college football lost a great coach, they did gain a fantastic personality, as Saban joined ESPN’s “College GameDay” crew this past season.
Atlhough he was known for being blunt and cold to the media during his time as a coach, his character was on full display alongside Pat McAfee and company. However, his former offensive coordinator and current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin revealed on Theo Von’s podcast “This Past Weekend,” that Saban could make a return to coaching, just at the NFL level.
“I do,” Kiffin said when asked if he thinks Saban misses coaching. “I did always think, okay, if he was going to do this, he was going to have to have, and I and they used to say he’s going to have to kind of have that College GameDay spot, because he’s going to want to still, like be involved. You know? He’s just so wired all day long to do something for his entire life, now he’s not going to sit around and just, you know, be a grandpa? That’s not him.
“So I think because of that, that’s helped a lot. I wouldn’t actually be surprised if he came back in the NFL, even, you know, as head coach, because he’s just so good at it, and so in him that I’m not sure he won’t come back.”
