Lions predicted to trade $5.7 million recent draft pick after demotion

While the Detroit Lions are set atop the depth chart at the quarterback position going into the 2025 offseason, their backup situation remains up in the air.

With veteran Teddy Bridgewater set to hit free agency and not certain to be back, the Lions are currently slated to have 2023 third-round pick Hendon Hooker as Jared Goff’s backup.

But it would appear the Lions are down on the Tennessee product, as evidenced by their signing the aforementioned Bridgewater late in the season to serve as Goff’s backup. Detroit even had Bridgewater active over Hooker to serve as Goff’s backup for the playoff loss to the Washington Commanders.

Entering his third season in the NFL, there is no path for Hooker to get a chance to start in Detroit with Goff under contract through 2028. As a result of that and his end-of-season demotion, it wouldn’t be shocking if Hooker asks to be traded.

And that’s exactly what TWSN’s team thinks will happen. The outlet named Hooker as the one player from the Lions who will be traded this offseason.

There’s a few teams we could see having some interest in a young quarterback based on their current situations. The first teams that come to mind are the Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Both teams have a major question mark atop the depth chart at quarterback and could use a young signal-caller to give at least some hope for the future.

The problem for the Lions is they’re going to take a loss in a trade and won’t get back the third-round pick they spent on Hooker initially, but that shouldn’t deter general manager Brad Holmes from making a move with Hooker’s future with Detroit looking bleak.
