The Reds defender was careless in possession as the Brazilian stole in to win the ball.

In a desperate attempt to close Pereira down, Liverpool stopper Caoimhin Kelleher threw himself at the feet of the midfielder and wiped him out as he laid the ball square to Rodrigo Muniz.

Muniz was unable to slot home into the empty net as Virgil van Dijk got his team-mates out of jail by blocking Muniz’s effort as the ball was eventually cleared.

Despite shouts for two separate penalty claims, VAR didn’t intervene despite extra protests from Pereira and Fulham boss Marco Silva on the touchline, with Kelleher clattering the midfielder late.

Fans on X were furious at the decision, as one said: “We rarely get any help from officials but how was that not a penalty for Fulham?! Kelleher wiped him out.” A second raged: “VAR not looking at the blatant foul by Kelleher!! The quality of the officiating in this league is abysmal.”

A Liverpool fans admitted: “Kelleher blatant foul wiping our Pereira, and van dijk is a possible foul. Got away with that one that’s for sure… Another slammed: “Konate is shocking.”
