An eventful day for Liverpool on Tuesday. Plenty of news on Ruben Amorim, who has been heavily linked with the hotseat at Anfield once Jurgen Klopp vacates it.
On top of that, Liverpool welcomed four players back to first-team training. It’s a much-needed boost for the squad as they continue their campaign towards two major trophies.
LIVERPOOL AND RUBEN AMORIM
Liverpool could face competition for top managerial target Ruben Amorim in the form of Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to reports.
According to the latest reports, Liverpool have already held talks with Ruben Amorim’s representatives and even put an offer of a three-year deal on the table.
While the Reds are the clear frontrunners in any race for the former midfielder, there could be other interested parties ready to enter the race, with a host of Europe’s top clubs also making managerial changes this summer.
Bayern Munich and Barcelona have previously been suggested as possible competitors for Amorim, while HITC are among those to claim that Chelsea see Amorim as an “ideal successor” to the under-pressure Mauricio Pochettino.
Meanwhile, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has claimed there is already a ‘verbal agreement in principle’ between Amorim and Liverpool following talks, while also referencing Chelsea and Bayern interest.
The reporter reiterates claims of a three-year deal, while adding that ‘final negotiations’ with Sporting CP are still to be completed in order for the deal to go ahead.
BETTING SUSPENDED ON AMORIM
Noise around the next Liverpool manager continues to get louder as one company opts to suspend betting going forward.
Betfair have suspended betting on Ruben Amorim to become the next Liverpool manager. This comes as a ‘flurry of bets’ were made on Tuesday morning for the Sporting CP boss to take over at Anfield.
Amorim has been the strong favourite for the job ever since Xabi Alonso announced he was taking himself out of the race. He’d been in the running even alongside the Spaniard, but now finds himself considered the leading candidate.
That’s shown by Betfair having him at 1/5 for the job before suspending their betting.
FOUR RETURN TO TRAINING
Liverpool put out a video on Tuesday that showed four players returning to training from injuries. The Reds are nearly back.
Liverpool showed off a mass-return on Tuesday as they welcomed several players back to first-team training. Jurgen Klopp’s side have been missing their stars over the last few weeks.
But it appears the cavalry has arrived. Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Stefan Bajceticand Diogo Jota were all in training on Tuesday and are nearing returns.
Alisson hasn’t played since the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on February 2nd, while Alexander-Arnold has been missing since the win over Burnley the following week. The week after that, Liverpool lost Jota – so it’s been nearly two months without the trio.
