Liverpool have confirmed transfer talks are “in contact” with an agent to replace Joel Matip. Liverpool have agreed a long-term deal for centre-back Joel Matip, according to the player’s agent. Matip has been ruled out for the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury against Fulham last December. The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and there is currently no indication that he will be offered a new contract.
As a result, the Cameroonian defender could have played his last game for Liverpool, with Jarrel Quansah, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez all featuring at right-back. They have now reached an agreement with Feyenoord defender David Hanko, according to the player’s agent Branislav Jasurek. However, he admitted that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) also made the initial contact. He told Czech media TN.cz (via Football365): “As an agency we are in contact with these two clubs (Liverpool and PSG) as well as other clubs who are investigating David’s situation.“I estimate there is an 80-90% chance that David will stay in Rotterdam [this month].
Feyenoord know David Hanko is for sale, but the summer could be better than that.”It has to be one of the big clubs. We believe he will choose the best option from a sporting point of view, similar to his move from Sparta Prague to Feyenoord [2022].“He chose this move over other financially attractive offers. It would be great if he transferred. Because it means moving to a big club. “But even if he doesn’t move, I think David wants to stay in Rotterdam.”The 26-year-old is said to be left-handed and models himself after Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. Van Dijk played on the left of a two-man central defense at Anfield but is naturally right-handed, so the pair could play together if Hanko moves to Liverpool.
The Slovakian defender has been one of the best defenders in the Eredivisie this season and has played in all 17 of Feyenoord’s Eredivisie matches. The second-placed side have conceded just 16 goals this season. This means they have the best defense in the division behind league leaders PSV, who have won all 17 games so far this season and conceded just seven goals.
