Liverpool have the chance to repeat Luis Diaz’s January stunt as they look for a new transfer target

The Reds believe they will not be in the market for a striker addition in January, with defense likely to be their main focus once significant first-team signings are made. However, Liverpool have the option to press ahead with their transfer plans in terms of long-term targets as they face the threat of interest from rivals. At the start of 2022, the Reds announced an initial £37.5m deal for Porto’s Luis Diaz which surprised many. After that, it was known that Liverpool were planning a move for Diaz next summer, but Tottenham insisted on the transfer.

After the deal was completed, Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “I am very pleased to have completed this deal and brought Luiz to Liverpool.”I’ve always preferred that if you want to sign a player in the summer, you only sign him in January and the same goes for Luiz.” “He’s a great player and someone we’ve been following for a long time.”A year later, the Reds signed Bakayoko’s Cody Gakpo from PSV, another player who attracted interest from rivals Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp recently suggested that Liverpool are unlikely to complete a deal in this transfer window, highlighting the difficulty of completing a deal in January. But in Klopp’s eight years at the club, he made eight first-team appearances and was adept at taking his chances. However, despite potential interest from Tottenham or Liverpool, the chances of PSV signing Bakayoko are currently slim.

The Dutch national team is still active in the Champions League and leads the title race in the Eredivisie. This makes it more likely that it will appear in the summer. Commenting on his failed move to Brentford earlier this season, the forward said: “At the moment PSV is my dream club.”During the previous transfer window I knew I was planning to stay at PSV. And there was no way I was going to change my mind. It doesn’t matter what the offer is or who the club is. I don’t want to go against my principles.”When I make a decision with the people around me, I stick to that decision. When Brentford made an offer last summer I didn’t think twice. It was clear that I would stay at PSV. I understand why people are surprised that I did this.
