However, the latest news revolves around a new contract for the Nigerian striker. His original contract was due to expire in 2025, but the Italian club have taken steps to make him “one of the highest-paid players in the club’s history”, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

His contract has been extended by a year, but he still has a release clause in place, which is confirmed to be worth around £112m (€130m). Osimhen, 24, scored 31 goals in all competitions for Serie A champions Napoli to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League and continued his form with seven goals and two assists in 15 games this season season.

Napoli have suffered a slump this season, trailing leaders Juventus by 14 points after 15 games, leaving the team in 6th place. In addition to Liverpool, there are teams in desperate need of strikers, such as Chelsea and Manchester United. The Reds have three options for the center forward role – Darwin Nunes, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota – and all three are crucial to the team as a whole.

Osimhen is a better striker than the other three, but can we say for sure that he is highly regarded by Europe’s elite clubs? What makes the move even less likely is that Nunez, Jota and Gakpo are all, on average, 25 years old.

That means there is no need for a new striker. Furthermore, with Joel Matip’s long-term injury likely to keep him out until the end of the season, the focus will be on defensive signings in January or the summer. When the club ends next summer, the club intends to actively work on strengthening the defense rather than the attack.

You can think about the future of Mohamed Salah. He attracted interest from Saudi Arabia in the summer and could return next year with a better offer, and if Liverpool agree to a big fee, they could look for someone with real strength, someone like Osimhen to replicate the Egyptian phenomenon. . production.
