Liverpool are set to sign a young superstar who will soon be rewarded with a new contract.
Liverpool are one of a handful of clubs targeting Benfica’s latest midfield sensation Joao Neves. Neves, 19, has become a key player for the Portuguese side this season, making breakthroughs in 16 appearances so far.
The defensive midfielder is the latest in a string of highly-rated players from the club under his former name, including Enzo Fernandes, Nemanja Matic, Bernardo Silva, Andre Gomes, Renato Sánchez, Axel Witsel and current star Florentino.
Lewis is another player Liverpool have looked at in the past. Portuguese outlet OJogo reported Liverpool’s interest, along with other Premier League clubs, revealed earlier this month.
Benfica shirt with number 87.’ According to the latest news, Liverpool have “listed the player” and Rui Costa (Benfica president) will soon start negotiations for a new contract that includes a €150 million release clause.
Neves recently made his debut for his country after playing at all age groups from U15 to U21 and made three appearances against Bosnia, Liechtenstein and Iceland. He has a versatile and action-oriented profile and has formed a strong partnership with Luiz in midfield.
Last year, he recorded an impressive three tackles per game, over two blocks, an 87% passing accuracy, seven progressive passes and nearly won two aerial duels.
