Jurgen Klopp has hit out at a journalist who asked him whether VAR is fit for purpose following the Premier League controversy.
Liverpool have been on the wrong side of the VAR controversy this season, accidentally disallowing a goal against Tottenham in September. At the time of the incident, the German coach was furious and called for a replay when Luis Diaz’s goal was disallowed.
There has been more VAR controversy this week as Arsenal conceded a controversial goal against West Ham United last night. Ahead of next Monday’s game against Newcastle United at Anfield, Klopp was asked if the FA should ditch VAR this season because of the controversy.
On VAR’s failure to improve performance, he said: “I don’t think I have to answer that question. You see, don’t take advantage of me.“If I give you too many opportunities to use my sentences, what we discussed will no longer be interesting.
Klopp says that doesn’t help much. And what I can’t do is…””I don’t think you need answer that question.”
The reporter replied, “It shouldn’t be done that way.”Klopp replied: “But that’s how it’s used. Do we agree with that?” Now what I say is “Klopp talks” and the problems we face every day is what I say almost every time I watch a game: “Okay, how is that possible?”
we think Both goals against us are legitimate goals in all these countries.”We can talk more. We already know that. The authorities probably already know, what do you mean? But they must be brave.
What does it mean?
“He then suggested leaving VAR, to which Klopp replied: “Oh my God. Get rid of VAR.
I think better use of VAR is probably the right thing to do and possible.”Klopp was also angered by VAR’s decision not to award his side a penalty against Arsenal. Despite the VAR decision against his team, Liverpool remain two points clear of the Gunners at the top of the league.
