Liverpool face Fulham at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday (2pm kick-off).Jurgen Klopp is looking forward to Liverpool’s match with Fulham.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could regain his starting place against Fulham after resting several key stars for his side’s Europa League win over LASK in midweek.
Klopp’s biggest dilemma could be whether to use the “very important” Darwin Nunes or continue to use Cody Gakpo, who scored twice in Europe on Thursday. Express Sport wonders how Liverpool could line up at Anfield.
Goalkeeper: Kelleher
Caoimhin Kelleher will get a rare start in the Premier League due to Alisson Becker’s injury. The Irishman made just five senior appearances and instead made his name in the domestic cup competitions.
Kelleher performed well against Fulham and could be a problem for Klopp.
Defenders: Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, GomezAndy Robertson’s injury allowed Gomez to put in an impressive performance on the left.
Kostas Tsimikas struggled against Manchester City last weekend, while Gomes performed well against LASK.
Virgil van Dijk’s inclusion will be one of six changes to the squad for Thursday’s game. Konate and Gomez are probably the only defenders who can hold their own.
Midfielders: Mac Allister, Jones, Szoboslai
Klopp’s summer overhaul has given him the opportunity to change his entire midfield for Liverpool’s Europa League run. Endo Wataru, Ryan Gravenbirch and Harvey Elliott started in midweek, giving the Reds’ starting trio a much-needed rest.
Alexis McAllister, Curtis Jones and Dominik Soboslay could return to midfield. Gravenburch has performed well for Liverpool since his summer move and has become another headache for Klopp.
Forwards: Salah, Nunes, Diaz
Klopp suggested keeping Nunes in the center of the front three despite two goals apiece against Rask on Friday.
In an ominous warning to pundits, the German said he has “no choice” for the position, adding that Nunes is now the Premier League’s first-choice centre-forward.“Darwin was at his peak and that hasn’t changed.
This is very important to us. The fact that he didn’t start [Thursday] had nothing to do with it. “Now Cody has scored two goals, so it’s incredible,” Klopp said. “So does that mean he has to play the next five games in a row?” Other players also score goals.
Cody isn’t looking forward to it now because that’s not what it’s about.”He has to score, it’s a job and I want it, but now I’m having sleepless nights and I don’t know where to start. To be honest, I don’t really have a choice.
