Liverpool ended the Jürgen Klopp era on a high. But even on this emotionally charged final day, the transfer rumor mill did not stop churning.
Not only did Klopp bow out with a win, he sent something of a reminder to successor Arne Slot. His farewell victory featured Jarell Quansah from the start, while the likes of Curtis Jones and Conor Bradley were summoned from the bench —it’s a squad already pretty well set up for the future.
But we can expect some transfer business in the summer, guided by new sporting director Richard Hughes. His arrival is now imminent, having concluded his final campaign with Bournemouth.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. There are two defenders on the radar.
Odilon Kossounou (Bayer Leverkusen)
Liverpool is reportedly leading the race for Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou, with a host of other top European clubs keen on the 23-year-old. The Reds could soon hold talks over a deal.
The Ivory Coast international has had a fine season under Xabi Alonso, with Leverkusen completing a remarkable unbeaten campaign this weekend. Caught Offside claims his performances have attracted interest from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Tottenham.

But it is Liverpool said to be in pole position for Kossounou, who is valued at around $65m (£52m/€60m) by Leverkusen. The Bundesliga side is said to have offered a new deal to the player, with his current deal up in 2026, but he is yet to agree terms.
Liverpool will seek at least one defensive addition when the transfer window opens. Joël Matip confirmed on Friday that he will depart on a free when his contract expires.
Liverpool.com says: Kossounou has been an important member of Xabi Alonso’s all-conquering Leverkusen side this season and the Bundesliga champion will be reluctant to let him go. But if he won’t sign a new deal, it could be the best time to sell him while his stock is so high. He would be a welcome addition to Liverpool’s backline.
