Liverpool are unlikely to sign anyone in the January transfer window despite Joel Matip’s injury.
Matip will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in a Premier League game against Sheffield United last month.
After the injury was confirmed, Jurgen Klopp admitted it was a big blow but said he would not enter the January transfer window.”Everyone says we need other players, but they all need money and they have to be the right players,” said the Liverpool manager.
“You said the club wanted to sell a centre-back, not a centre-back. “We’ve known for four or five days that Joel will be out for a long time and that’s very bad for us, but we still have four centre-backs and that’s good.”
If you have a fifth centre-back, it’s a completely different team dynamic. If someone doesn’t step in, we don’t see any action from him.
That’s what happened and it was brilliant.” “Is it perfect now?” I would say: if we can continue to do these four things, then yes. Otherwise, it will be more difficult because of the number of games to come.
“But it will never be an incredible place to bring in a world-class centre-back until the second player has recovered. “Honestly, I don’t believe until other clubs put them under the tree for us and say ‘take him as long as you need’ (you can buy players).
“Managers keep their cards close to their chest when it comes to transfers, but Klopp’s claims have been confirmed by the Telegraaf.
Liverpool are unlikely to make any January signings, says journalist Chris Bascombe, looking at what each Premier League club needs and who they could sign and sell this month. This despite Matip’s injury being one of Klopp’s “biggest problems”.
One player Reds could release is Fabio Carvalho. The 21-year-old joined RB Leipzig on loan in the summer transfer window, but a lack of opportunities in Germany prompted the Premier League club to terminate his contract with the Bundesliga outfit.
Bascombe added that “a new loan deal could be done in the short term” after Klopp recalled Carvalho. Elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool plan to bring back the Portuguese winger in the winter transfer window.
According to Romano, Leipzig “really wanted to keep him”, but despite him not being a regular player, Liverpool were “dissatisfied” and decided to end his loan deal. “Several Premier League and Championship clubs (including Southampton) are keen to sign him on loan,” he added.
