Liverpool and Real Madrid Set for Epic Champions League Clash
The highly anticipated match between Liverpool and Real Madrid is just around the corner, with the two European giants set to collide at Anfield on Wednesday evening. Liverpool, seeking their fifth win in as many Champions League matches this season, will look to maintain their perfect record and stay atop the 36-team table.
In contrast, Real Madrid, the current holders, have struggled to find their footing, with only six points from their first four matches. Despite their mediocre start, Carlo Ancelotti’s men have a history of rising to the occasion against Liverpool, with seven wins in their last eight meetings.
The two teams have a rich history, with their first meeting dating back to the 1981 European Cup final, which Liverpool won 1-0. However, since then, Real Madrid have dominated the head-to-head, with seven wins and only three losses.
Liverpool’s last win against Real Madrid came in 2009, when they won 4-0 at Anfield in the Champions League last-16 tie. Since then, Real Madrid have had the upper hand, including a 3-1 win in the 2018 Champions League final and a 5-2 thrashing at Anfield in the 2022-23 Champions League last-16 tie.
With Karim Benzema, Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer against Liverpool, no longer with the team, the Spanish giants will look to their current crop of stars to lead them to victory. Liverpool, meanwhile, will rely on their in-form attack, led by Mohamed Salah, to try and inflict a rare defeat on Real Madrid.
