The player is open to leaving Newcastle
While the 26-year-old has emphasised that he is happy to remain at St James’ Park, he has made it clear that he harbours ambitions of moving teams at some point in the future. Speaking last month, Guimaraes said:

“Everything’s been going well at Newcastle since I arrived, I play among the best. I plan to play here for a long time, but I’m also aiming to move in the future. I’m happy to be here in the league.”

The Brazilian has shown he is very comfortable playing as both a no.6 and no.8 during his two-and-a-half years at Newcastle.

While the Reds are not exactly short of midfielders, Guimaraes would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Wataru Endo. The Japanese international has done an admirable job since arriving from Stuttgart but he is the wrong side of 30 and he was only brought in as a short-term solution.

Guimaraes, in contrast, is about to hit his prime and he is a multi-faceted midfield player who would add plenty of value to the first-team squad.
