Liverpool’s next move in the market could now be clearer as Manchester United pursue Dan Ashworth. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Red Devils have since made a formal approach to the 52-year-old sporting director.
Dan Ashworth has informed Newcastle that Man United have approached him about the sporting director role at Old Trafford. The two clubs have yet to make official contact, but are expected to do so soon. #MUFC has to pay huge compensation to #NUFC for 52 years.
Ashworth has always been a target for a sporting director role and Manchester United know he is open to a move. With summer plans in mind, Newcastle will want Ashworth to act quickly (and publicly).
Otherwise, we’ll start making plans without Ashworth. The Merseysiders are understood to rate West Ham’s Tim Stideten highly, but are yet to make their views on the former Bayer Leverkusen man official.
A player on the board…Historically, we have seen how the two great European powers (one of which became a united power) simultaneously thwarted a single European power pursuing new investments of its own.
However, this could be mitigated somewhat if Erik Ten Hag’s men secure Ashworth’s services. Finally, it represents a potentially explicit attempt to achieve various management objectives.
If we avoid the half-empty prospect of discovering a new rival in Newcastle United.I’m looking forward to seeing what the board looks like in May.
