Manchester United legend Patrice Evra says he’s ‘going to cry in the toilet’ after Liverpool go top of Premier League

Liverpool regained the lead in the title race with a 2-0 win over Burnley on Boxing Day thanks to goals from Darwin Nunes and Diogo Jota.

The Reds’ arch-rivals United defeated another title challenger in Aston Villa shortly after the victory at Turf Moor, winning 3-2 after trailing 2-0 at half-time. Had Villa won, they would have moved level on points with Liverpool.

Instead, Jurgen Klopp’s side are two points clear at the top, but a win against West Ham on Thursday night will see Arsenal dethroned.

Evra rated Liverpool’s title chances on Amazon Prime Sport’s United v Villa and revealed how painful it was to admit it. “I don’t want to say [Liverpool is first]. We have to be neutral.

“No, but Liverpool deserve it, they deserve it. I think they are serious contenders for the title. “We talk a lot about Manchester City and Arsenal.

Of course, City have two games left, but I think Liverpool are back in business. “They are at the top of the league and they will stay there. Because they are very consistent.

They have great managers. “You know, I’m not that biased. I’m very grateful to Liverpool!” Now I’m going to cry in the bathroom!’The Reds have lost just one league game this season – against Tottenham in controversial circumstances – but face tough games against Newcastle, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Arsenal to start the new year.

They will also face the Gunners in the third round of the FA Cup and in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham.
