The Reds took the lead through Dominik Szoboszlai, who capitalized on a poor throw by Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. The hosts equalized through Adam Armstrong, but Liverpool responded with goals from Mo Salah, including a penalty in the 81st minute.

Martin expressed his disappointment, stating that the goals conceded were gifted to Liverpool rather than resulting from moments of magic. He acknowledged that his team defended well in numbers but struggled with clearances and decision-making.
