MatchOpta stats: 11 things to know ahead of Southampton v Liverpool

The Reds pick up the campaign following the November international break by travelling to St Mary’s for a 2pm GMT kick-off.

They will do so seeking to continue a run of nine wins in 11 matches that gave them a five-point lead at the top of the table earlier this month.

Liverpool have lost just two of their last 26 Premier League games that have come immediately after an international break (19 wins, five draws).

Arne Slot’s side created more big chances (41) than any other team in the division during the opening 11 fixtures this term.

A victory on Sunday would see Slot become the joint-fastest boss to reach 10 wins from the start of a Premier League career (12 games), alongside Guus Hiddink in May 2009 and Carlo Ancelotti in November 2009 (both with Chelsea).

Southampton have the second-highest figures in the league in 2024-25 so far for passes played (5,970) and pass completion rate (88.5 per cent).Mohamed Salah has been involved in more Premier League goals than any other player this season (14), either scoring (eight) or assisting (six) 66 per cent of Liverpool’s goals (21) in the top flight.

The Egypt international has had a hand in 11 goals across his previous 11 Premier League appearances against Southampton (seven goals, four assists).

Saints have failed to win any of their last five matches against the Reds since a 1-0 success in January 2021.

This will be the first Premier League match between the sides starting the day bottom and top of the table respectively since April 2023 – when Southampton drew 3-3 away to Arsenal.

The Reds have yet to concede in the final 15 minutes of a top-flight game this season.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last seven visits to St Mary’s in the Premier League (four wins, two draws), drawing 4-4 on their most recent trip, which came on the final day of the 2022-23 season.
