Mike Dean gives his verdict on Jeremy Doku – Alexis Mac Allister incident in Liverpool vs Manchester City

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have played out a draw with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, but some Anfield faithful will think that the Reds should have picked up all three points from the Premier League match.

Argentina international midfielder Alexis Mac Allister scored for Liverpool from the penalty spot in the 50th minute.

Mac Allister was involved in a late controversial incident. In the eighth minute of injury time, City winger Jeremy Doku caught the midfielder in the chest with a high boot.

 

The Liverpool star went down in the area. A VAR check decided that Doku had got the ball first. No penalty was given.

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean as well as ex-Manchester United right-back Gary Neville thought that it was a penalty.

Neville said on Sky Sports: “Doku is very lucky. I thought he was in trouble.”

Dean said on Sky Sports: “I think it’s a penalty.”

The former Premier League referee added: “He is very fortunate Jeremy Doku!”

Liverpool should be pleased with the performance vs Manchester City

In my opinion, Liverpool should be proud of how they played against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

Although City could have scored at least three goals at Anfield, Liverpool had chances and made the visiting team work hard.

Liverpool took 19 shots, City took 10. The Reds also have more possession than the defending Premier League champions.

 

Jurgen Klopp’s side are level on points with leaders Arsenal and are second. City are just a point behind them in third.
