Liverpool dropped two Premier League points at Manchester United on Sunday in a dramatic 2-2 draw.
Luis Diaz fired Liverpool ahead before Bruno Fernandes equalized against the run of play with a stunning strike from 50 yards.
Kobbie Mainoo then gave United the lead with his third goal of the season before Mo Salah equalized with an 84th-minute penalty.
Sunday’s result significantly boosted the Premier League title chances of both Arsenal and Manchester City.
Arsenal ended the weekend top of the EPL table with 71 points from 31 fixtures.
Liverpool also now have 71 points but sit behind Arsenal on goal difference, while City are third with 70 points.
Arsenal won 3-0 at Brighton on Saturday, shortly after City had beaten Crystal Palace 4-2.
Liverpool made an authoritative start at Old Trafford and took a deserved lead after 23 minutes when Diaz scored with a flying volley following a Darwin Nunez flick-on.
But the game was level five minutes into the second half when Fernandes scored a stunning goal from near the halfway line with United’s first shot of the game.
Fernandes found the net with a first-time shot from 50 yards after intercepting a loose pass from Jarell Quansah near the halfway line five minutes into the second half.
Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher attempted to save the shot with a full-stretch dive, despite being outside of his penalty area.
Kelleher would have been sent off had he successfully blocked the ball with his hand but the shot from Fernandes flew past him.
Liverpool appeared to be a little rattled following United’s spectacular leveler.
Having been in control of the tempo, the game became a chaotic and breathless end-to-end contest.
United took the lead midway through the second half when Mainoo curled a fine shot into the top corner after turning sharply inside the penalty area.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka provided the assist for Mainoo’s goal but the United right-back was then at fault for Liverpool’s equalizer.
A wild sliding challenge saw Wan-Bissaka foul Harvey Elliot before Mo Salah cooly converted the resulting penalty kick.
Salah has now scored six Premier League goals at Old Trafford – more than any other visiting player in the competition’s history.
