“My heart hurt a bit” – Frenchman discusses Liverpool exit, says move ‘happened very quickly’

Throughout his career, Djibril Cisse has enjoyed two spells in the Premier League, first for Liverpool and then for Sunderland. The player spoke to Le Pocéen about how the move to Meryside came about, but also spoke about leaving the Reds in the same chat. According to Le10 Sport, the attacking coach has now revealed what his move from Liverpool to Marsile was like. The 42-year-old joined from Auxerre for €20m in 2004 but stayed for just two years before moving to the south of France.

First with a loan, then with a permanent deal next year for 9 million euros. It was a huge loss for Liverpool, but it’s clear they were keen to get rid of Cisse when Rafa Benitez took over. Former striker: “What is your best memory of Marseille? After I found out, I tried to sign. I was at home in England. It wasn’t easy when I heard that Benitez had changed his plans and wanted to look for a club, but once I found out it was Marseille, things happened very quickly. “It was just fun. It was a bit heartbreaking because my kids stayed in England, but I had to go there during my career, otherwise it wouldn’t have been great.

Although he was injured upon arrival, the audience cheered when he was introduced. “I told myself I made the right choice.”During his time at Liverpool, Cisse scored 24 goals and assisted a further five goals in 79 appearances in all competitions. On the other hand, he appeared in 80 matches for Marseille, scoring 37 goals and providing 9 assists.
