Netflix, in collaboration with RTV Slovenia, has officially announced the production of a new sports documentary chronicling the remarkable rise of Slovenian basketball superstar Luka Dončić. The documentary, titled “Dončić: Beyond the Arc,” is set to premiere globally later this year.
This marks the first time that RTV Slovenia, the country’s national broadcaster, has partnered with Netflix for a global release. The project will showcase never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes insights into Dončić’s journey from a precocious teen in Ljubljana to an NBA All-Star and current Los Angeles Lakers guard.
Luka Dončić, who made headlines in 2024 with his high-profile move from the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers, remains one of the most electrifying talents in modern basketball. The documentary will cover pivotal moments in his life, including his early days with Union Olimpija, his EuroLeague dominance with Real Madrid, and his transition to the NBA.
Producers say the series will highlight not only his athletic achievements but also his personal struggles, leadership growth, and the immense pressure of carrying national expectations. The title “Beyond the Arc” symbolizes both Dončić’s trademark three-point shooting and his transcendent journey beyond geographic and professional boundaries.
“This is more than a basketball story,” said Netflix Europe executive Maria Kruger. “It’s a story about ambition, identity, and what it means to represent your country on the world stage. Luka’s story has touched millions, and this documentary will show fans the person behind the legend.”
The film crew has reportedly gained access to Dončić’s inner circle, including family, coaches, teammates, and close friends. Exclusive interviews with Lakers stars, former Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, and Slovenian national team staff will offer unique perspectives on his evolving role in the sport.
RTV Slovenia has been following Dončić since his early teenage years, and the broadcaster’s archives will provide rich historical footage, giving fans a nostalgic glimpse into his early games and interviews. “We have the privilege of having filmed Luka when he was still a rising hope,” said RTV producer Mateja Novak. “Now we get to tell the full story.”
Filming began in March 2025 and is expected to wrap by late summer, with a projected release in November 2025. The series will debut simultaneously on Netflix and RTV Slovenia, with Slovenian-language narration and optional English subtitles.
The documentary comes at a time when Dončić is once again in the global spotlight, leading the Lakers into a deep playoff run and drawing comparisons to NBA greats like LeBron James and Larry Bird. His move to Los Angeles has only intensified media attention, making the timing of this documentary particularly poignant.
Fans and analysts alike have long awaited a comprehensive look at Luka’s life beyond the court, and “Dončić: Beyond the Arc” promises to deliver just that. With its blend of intimate storytelling and high-octane sports drama, the series is poised to captivate viewers both in Slovenia and around the world.
As anticipation builds, one thing is certain: Luka Dončić’s story is far from over—but soon, the world will get to see how it all began.
