One Newcomer’s Bold Words Have Kentucky Fans Fired Up — And He’s Just Getting Started. It Has Fans Counting Down to November…
Lexington, KY — The energy around Kentucky Basketball feels different this summer, and a lot of it has to do with one of the newest faces on the roster — a hometown kid with big dreams, and even bigger confidence.
Reece Potter, a 7-foot-1 transfer from Miami (OH) and Lexington native, didn’t waste any time making his presence — and his expectations — known.
During a recent interview, Potter gave Kentucky fans exactly what they love to hear: bold, unapologetic confidence in this year’s squad.
“We’re the Deepest Team in the Country”
Potter’s statement wasn’t subtle. When asked about the Wildcats’ potential heading into the 2025-26 season, he responded with conviction:
“We always say we’re the deepest team in the country. One through 15 guys — everybody can probably play anywhere in the country. Every single day, it’s a challenge. Every single day, everybody is trying to bring it, fighting for spots. Our whole team can go.”
Coming from someone who grew up dreaming of wearing Kentucky blue, Potter’s words carry weight — and fans are already circling November on their calendars.
A Hometown Dream Becomes Reality
Potter, a product of Lexington Catholic High School, spent his first two collegiate seasons developing at Miami (OH). Now back home, he joins a Kentucky roster stacked with returning talent, elite transfer additions, and promising recruits.
But beyond his size and skill set, it’s his vocal leadership and belief in this team that is standing out.
“My goal is to win No. 9,” Potter declared, referencing Kentucky’s pursuit of their ninth national championship. “Just trying to grow every single day.”
Defense, Depth, and a Different Mentality
With Otega Oweh leading the returning core and Mark Pope assembling one of the top transfer portal classes in the nation, the Wildcats aren’t just loaded — they’re locked in.
Potter offered another glimpse into the culture shift happening behind closed doors:
“We’re gonna be the best defensive team in the country, I’d probably say. It’s gonna be a battle, who’s gonna be the Defensive Player of the Year in the SEC, because it could probably be anybody on our team.”
The Countdown to November Begins
For a program built on tradition and championship expectations, it’s not just words — it’s the standard. And Reece Potter clearly understands that.
His early confidence, combined with a fierce summer workout atmosphere, has Big Blue Nation buzzing with anticipation. With tip-off still months away, one thing is certain: this team — and its newest vocal leader — have no intention of flying under the radar.
November can’t come soon enough.
