It has been a revolving door of head coaches since Gonzalez arrived in New England. He was initially drafted in the first round by Bill Belichick in 2023, and then Jerod Mayo took over the coaching responsibilities after Belichick was fired in 2024.

Now, Vrabel is the head coach with the team firing Mayo in January after only one season. Gonzalez was outspoken about the team’s decision to fire Mayo. Even though he chalked it up as a business decision, he did acknowledge that he thought the team did Mayo a “litty dirty” by only giving him one season.

Owner Robert Kraft himself acknowledged that Mayo was put in an “untenable situation” as an inexperienced head coach. The good news is that the Patriots finally appear to be on the right track with Vrabel running the ship.

“A lot of new faces, but we’re rolling. Love playing for Vrabel so far. Great energy. Everything you see on TV, that’s exactly what you get,” Gonzalez told media members.
