The referees have been appointed for Sunday’s big game between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield.
Michael Oliver has been appointed as the referee for Sunday’s Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester United.
The 38-year-old shortstop will make his 60th appearance for the Reds. Liverpool has 29 wins, 13 losses and 17 draws.
Oliver has officiated more matches with the Reds than any other Premier League club during his refereeing career, behind Arsenal, Everton (both 55), Manchester City (53) and Chelsea (51).
The Northumbria officials have managed 44 United matches. The Red Devils have an 18-15 record with 11 ties. Sunday was not the first time Oliver had played in a match for two clubs in the North West.
He blew the whistle for Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford last season as Erik ten Hag’s side halted the slide after a poor start to the season.
Oliver scored in both teams’ draws in 2017 and 2019, as well as in the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in 2015, all at United’s home ground. He will be joined on Sunday by Stuart Burt and Dan Cook.
This will be Cook’s first time as an assistant referee in a Liverpool game since the controversy surrounding Luis Diaz’s goal against Tottenham Hotspur.
Darren England was on VAR that night and Cook assisted him as AVAR. Their mistakes saw the pair relegated from the Premier League following the incident on 30 September, before returning on 17 October.
John Brooks will be at Stokely Park on Sunday as VAR, with Simon Long set to help him make important decisions. Anthony Taylor is the official.
