Report – Liverpool ready to finally secure signing of £60million Ivorian born star on priority in the summer

Liverpool are looking to improve their central defense and Marc Guehi’s name has been in the spotlight since last summer. According to Football Insider, Manchester United were prepared to compete for the Ivorian defender’s signature in July 2023, but he ended up staying at Crystal Palace.

Liverpool have offered Manchester United a £51m target to sign and the decision has been made. According to The Mirror, Liverpool are aiming to make signing a centre-back a priority this summer and have put Guehi at the top of their wish-list.

A source has claimed the Merseysiders want the England international to replace injured veteran Joel Matip. The Cameroonian has been a loyal servant of the Anfield club and his contract with the club expires in June this year. Mirror Sport claim the Eagles will not opt out of their expensive contract mid-season. A winter transfer is therefore impossible and Liverpool will have to wait for the summer.

Guehi proved his worth in the Premier League at Selhurst Park and also made nine appearances for the Three Lions under Gareth Southgate. The 23-year-old defender has made 20 Premier League appearances so far this season, helping Hodgson’s side keep five clean sheets.

Liverpool could face competition for his signature as Football Insider revealed last month that Manchester United and Tottenham are also interested in signing Guehi, who is valued at £60million. Listen: Should Liverpool spend £60m on Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window?
