Liverpool are looking for a new manager after Jurgen Klopp’s big announcement. Roberto De Zerbi should be a candidate and was asked about the vacancy.
For the first time since 2015, Liverpool’s owners FSG must find a new manager to lead the Anfield club. And the process of deciding who will replace Jurgen Klopp will not be easy.
De Zerbi was asked directly by reporters if the Liverpool vacancy was what he had in mind. But, not ruling anything out, the Brighton manager took a slight step back and dismissed the question.
Candidates for the role include Xabi Alonso, currently in good form against Bayer Leverkusen and Bundesliga side Bayern Mundesliga, and Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, but only after this summer’s European Championships.
However, range searches also consider other names. Tottenham Hotspur’s Ange Postecoglou could be Athletic’s preferred option and has expressed his respect for Klopp’s decision to leave Liverpool. Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi was also asked about the German’s departure.
De Zervi said it was “not my focus anymore” after his side knocked Sheffield United out of the FA Cup. “I focused on the players, the team, the supporters and the club.
“We still have a lot to achieve this season and then we’ll see in the future.”Brighton are currently seventh in the Premier League and face the daunting task of having to play European football outside the domestic competition for the first time.
Like “Liverpool”, it qualified for the round of 16 of the Europa League. Liverpool.com say De Zervi, along with Alonso and Nagelsmann, would be ideal candidates for the role. He has experience in English football (albeit as a player in Alonso’s case) although the other two are used to playing for big clubs.
Liverpool will also have plenty of options to seriously consider, but this trio is likely to top the shortlist. It would be foolish to do so as no one can replace Klopp in the same way.
Instead, Liverpool should use the data to find people with good job opportunities.Alonso, Nagelsmann or De Zerbi are not options for Klopp and instead take on the role themselves. This is especially important for those who come after, as they try to be their own, rather than trying to copy what came before.
