Rocky Top Reloads: Former Maryland PG Ja’Kobi Gillespie Commits to Tennessee

In another major addition to an already promising offseason, former Maryland point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie has officially committed to the University of Tennessee, giving the Volunteers a dynamic floor general with speed, poise, and proven playmaking ability.

 

Gillespie, a Tennessee native and former standout at Maryville High School, entered the transfer portal after one season with the Terrapins, where he showed flashes of brilliance in limited action. Now, he’s headed back home, ready to bring his energy and elite athleticism to Rocky Top.

Although his minutes were limited in his freshman season, Gillespie’s potential was clear. He averaged 3.7 points and 1.9 assists in just under 11 minutes per game, showcasing his ability to push the tempo and create plays for teammates.
