Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has emerged as the early favourite to be Klopp’s successor at Anfield. Alonso has also been linked with managing Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, having played for both clubs during his time as a player, as well as Liverpool.

Amorim has also been linked with the future vacancy at Liverpool, while Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann have also been mentioned as potential candidates. Reports on Saturday claimed that Amorim was identified as an “alternative” to Alonso for the Reds in the event they fail to appoint the current Leverkusen boss.

“This year I’m not going to go back to the same conversation as last year,” Amorim said in November, via the Manchester Evening News. “I’m not going to make any kind of comment on these situations. We don’t know the future, it depends on the results.

“Regarding the future, I have an idea for the end of the season but I won’t say it now. But the results and the context take us to something different. I don’t want to be commenting on these things. I have not been contacted by Manchester United.”
