Russell Wilson’s 10th Pro Bowl appearance may mark a milestone in his illustrious career, but it also raises questions about his future in the NFL. As the 36-year-old quarterback entered Camping World Stadium for the event, he was accompanied by his stepson, Future Jr.—a reminder of the moments he holds dear as his playing days wind down.
Wilson, who spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is set to enter free agency. Despite the uncertainty, he remains hopeful about returning to the team. “I’m looking forward to hopefully going back to the Steelers, and we’ll see what happens with the rest,” Wilson told the Associated Press. “I love it in Pittsburgh.”
However, the Steelers’ front office may have other plans. Team president Art Rooney II has hinted that the franchise is unlikely to retain both Wilson and Justin Fields, the 26-year-old quarterback who also played key snaps during the season. “I think both of them see themselves as starters, and I don’t know that they want to share the same job again next year,” Rooney said, per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. “So, I would say most likely we probably don’t wind up bringing them both back.”
Wilson took over as the Steelers’ starting quarterback for the final 11 games of the 2024 season after recovering from a calf injury. He completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards, with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. While his performance showed flashes of the elite quarterback he once was, Fields could be seen as Pittsburgh’s long-term option.
As free agency approaches, Wilson’s next move remains uncertain. Whether he stays in Pittsburgh or seeks a fresh start elsewhere, one thing is clear—he isn’t ready to walk away from the game just yet
