Saints legend Jammal Brown reminisces on 2006 playoff victory

The former left tackle said his favorite memory as a Saint came in the 2006 Divisional Round victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. With the Saints getting the ball back with 1:48 remaining, the Saints turned to McAllister and the offensive line to gain a first down that allowed the Saints to kneel the clock out and advance to the NFC Championship.

“That thing came in right behind me and Deuce ate it up and got it,” Brown said. “Now he got hit a little early but he made it happen. He made it happen, but I was in on that and I have my guy and I gave it to him and Deuce got it. And it was just like history right there. That moment was just so magnificent and so special. So, that’s one of the key moments I remember.”

That drive capped off an impressive performance in the running game with the Saints finishing with 37 rushing attempts for 208 yards and two touchdowns in the 27-24 victory. McAllister had 21 carries for 143 yards and a touchdown running behind Brown and the rest of the offensive line. Brown said it was empowering when you are running the ball with success.

“You just get to go out there and play physical. No thinking, you know what it is,” Brown said. “You feel the confidence that the coach has in the offensive line when you’re running the ball good. … I know Deuce had good game because I had some great blocks up on those linebackers. So you know, showing that, you know you feel that is coming. The confidence is in us from the offensive line coach, from the head coach, so you just kind of know like that’s what it’s going to be and that’s what you want.”
