Jon Scheyer and Johnny Dawkins will meet this fall at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Two Duke legends. One court. Different benches.
Scheyer, now leading Duke into his third season, will face the man who once coached him. Dawkins returns to Durham with UCF, where he now calls the shots.
“It’s an honor,” Scheyer said. “Coach Dawkins helped build Duke. He coached me. He shaped who I am.”
Dawkins made history at Duke. He was Coach K’s first star. A national player of the year finalist. A foundation piece.
Now he walks back into the house he helped create—only this time, as the opponent.
“I’m proud of Jon,” Dawkins said. “He’s doing an incredible job. Going back to Cameron will be special.”
This game marks Dawkins’ first return to Cameron as a head coach. He spent nearly a decade there as a player and assistant. He mentored Scheyer. He helped Duke win.
Now the teacher and the student square off.
There’s pride. There’s respect. There’s history in every inch of that court.
And when the ball tips, both coaches will chase a win—but the moment will be bigger than the scoreboard.
