“Sloppy” moments, midfielder Trent & “resilience” pays – Last word on Liverpool 4-3 Fulham

Liverpool once again had to go the hard way but maintained their perfect home record for 2023/24 with a 4-3 win over Fulham.

The Reds twice came back to finish 2-2 at half-time after scoring two fine goals, but Bobby De Cordova-Reid made much of the effort with a header after 80 minutes.

Wataru Endo and Trent Alexander-Arnold kept Arsenal apart and quickly produced two more quality finishes to wreak havoc at Anfield.

Can you see the change practically when we’re 3-2 down?

Courtney: Really? Not. I was expecting a tie. Looking at how the game has gone so far, I thought we deserved a draw.

ADAM: You can never leave Liverpool out. I would have liked to have equalized but it really felt like a blow to go two goals down.

Given the nature of the goals we conceded, 2-2 felt worse than 0-0 at half-time, but you can imagine the boost the players got and I wouldn’t change the score for anything now.

Patrick: Absolutely not. I haven’t seen anything in our performance that gives me confidence that we will get a good result. But if Endo ties, we always have another chance.

Patrick: It was great. I don’t want to compare, but when he got the ball on the half-turn, I didn’t think about Steven Gerrard. When he’s in midfield, you can see his pace and speed. It was one of his best performances in a Liverpool shirt.

ADAM: A very good option and I could see the manager moving him mid-season if the situation calls for it. Then you see him getting the nod often to score, he has the right foot to do it and his confidence will be very high right now.

COURTNEY: I was really moved by that guy, too. Even at half-time I thought he was going to be man of the match and I could see him going into midfield when Joe Gomez came on and scored the winner.

COURTNEY: I give it a 7/10. A few seconds seemed too long to make a passing decision and too many chances were wasted in front of goal.

Fulham played well and gave us some problems. Until 10 minutes before the end of the game, I thought we were not playing well.

PATRICK: It’s sloppy at best. It’s okay to start the game a little slow against a team you expect to win, but they actually played poorly.

Ryan Gravenburch, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz were very free in possession and this seemed to be typical of the entire game.

ADAM: Sometimes we looked like pedestrians. The nature of the objective was a concern and would probably have been a major point of discussion if we had messed it up.

But I liked the lasting power. Last season we felt sorry for ourselves and missed that game. Now it seems the real battle is on.

ADAM: Mecca is the answer. I didn’t realize how dynamic it was when I saw it live, but that made it even more special. It might be the best goal I’ve scored at Anfield since the pandemic, but I’m struggling to think of a better one.

PATRICK: It must be Macca’s. Because I’m right behind you! He may have been out of position and didn’t have the best time, but he didn’t lack confidence in this attack.

To me, this is similar to Salah’s lightning strike against Chelsea in 2019.

COURTNEY: I agree with both. It has to be Alexis McAllister! That’s really the point.

No one on the field saw the ball coming to his feet. Especially when viewed from a distance.

How to score your first goal for LFC? A team like Sheffield United on Wednesday?

COURTNEY: I’d like to see Endo start at Gravenbirch on Wednesday. I think it will be a tougher game than people expect.

I think during the week and on the weekend we can have some difficulties. Especially after the team did everything they could in the final minutes to win against Fulham.
