The 47-goal striker regrets refusing to sign for Liverpool despite Steven Gerrard’s insistence that he do so

The report claims that former Premier League striker Steven Gerrard once tried to persuade him to move to Liverpool, but he turned him down and now regrets not taking the chance. However, the former England international did not last long at Anfield. Roy Hodgson signed Joe Cole, Paul Koncheski and Christian Poulsen at Liverpool but none of his six signings lasted.

Raul Meirelles, who later signed for Chelsea, is probably the only one of the six to have been on loan at Anfield. But former Fulham and West Ham striker Bobby Zamora, who scored 47 Premier League goals, revealed on the Under The Cosh podcast that Gerrard once tried to persuade him to move to Liverpool. The striker also said that if he had another choice, “I would have spent five years with the Reds”.

“I should have left Fulham for Liverpool,” Zamora, now 42, admitted. “Roy (Hodgson) went to Liverpool. They are offering 10 million pounds (about $13 million) a pair at a time. “When I played my first game for England against Hungary, I was in the lift with my best friend and Stevie D said, ‘I really enjoyed myself today, good job.’ Do you want to come to Liverpool? said.
