Hi, what are you looking for?

Liverpool

There’s nobody I want us to beat more than Liverpool.

The biggest game of the season for me.

I label it Newcastle’s biggest game because there’s nobody I want to see us beat more than Liverpool.

Can United win on Wednesday night? Of course we can.

We are at home under the lights, the crowd will be up for it, our players will raise their game and I have no doubt there’s going to be some reaction from the team.

The players and the coaches know full well it hasn’t been good enough of late and on the whole not good enough this season.

Newcastle United have lacked consistency and struggled really to put a strong 90 minutes together.

Arsenal and Man City are our best performances to date. So who knows, if we repeat the level of performance we saw against Arsenal, we may well yet surprise Liverpool.

It has been nine long years since we beat them. Too long. A dreadful record in recent years.

The last time Newcastle beat Liverpool was 2-0 in December 2015, when Jurgen Klopp made his first visit to St James’ Park.

The odds were stacked against us then, just as they are now, but remarkably, our hopeless side under the equally hopeless Steve Mcclaren, turned up and outfought Liverpool. Deservedly winning, courtesy of an own goal and a late breakaway goal from Gini Wijnaldum.

Newcastle are in a bit of a rut now and we are unfancied once again facing Liverpool.

Can fate though repeat itself again?

Stranger things have happened.

I don’t expect us to beat Liverpool but I haven’t written us off.

We haven’t become a poor side overnight. We have got the players that can hurt them.

All I’m asking for is a big performance from everyone.

Don’t lay down to them , be committed, get in their faces, don’t give them an inch. Who knows, we may well get a result.

It’s been nine long years, let’s end this barren run and sort ourselves out, kick-start this season by beating Luckypool.
