Top National Prospect Finley Chastain Sparks Buzz After Reported Ties to Oklahoma Softball

Top National Prospect who initially committed to the University of Tennessee as an eighth-grader but later decommitted in April Sparks Buzz After Reported Ties to Oklahoma Softball

In a move that caught the attention of fans across two sports, reports surfaced this week suggesting that Finley Chastain, one of the top high school athletes in the country, may be connected to the University of Oklahoma softball program. While no official confirmation has been released, the mere mention of Chastain’s name in association with the Sooners has generated considerable excitement.

Chastain, widely regarded as one of the elite basketball prospects in the Class of 2027, made headlines as an eighth-grader when she committed early to the University of Tennessee. That commitment, however, was later withdrawn in April 2024 following the dismissal of Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper. Since then, Chastain’s recruitment has opened back up, with major programs vying for her talents.

Although primarily known for her basketball skills, Chastain’s name being linked to Oklahoma softball has led to questions about her athletic versatility and whether she might be looking to pursue a two-sport collegiate career. At 6 feet tall, she brings the size, agility, and competitive drive that could translate across multiple fields of play.

The University of Oklahoma’s softball program, led by legendary coach Patty Gasso, is among the most dominant in the nation, boasting multiple national championships and a reputation for recruiting elite-level athletes. If Chastain is indeed in talks with the Sooners, it would represent another major recruiting win for the powerhouse program.

Chastain began her high school career at Montverde Academy in Florida, where she played a key role in helping the girls’ basketball team win a national championship. Her court vision, scoring ability, and leadership set her apart early, making her a name to watch long before most student-athletes receive national recognition.

In June 2024, she announced a transfer to Faith Family Academy in Oak Cliff, Texas, a decision that will bring her closer to home and allow her to play under esteemed head coach Andrea Robinson. The move is expected to help her further develop her game and prepare for a high-profile collegiate career.

In the months following her decommitment from Tennessee, Chastain has received offers from programs such as Mississippi State, Iowa, and Oklahoma State. These offers have all come on the basketball side, and so far, no softball-specific offers have been publicly acknowledged. Still, her athleticism has prompted speculation about whether a two-sport path could be in her future.

For now, no official announcement has been made by Chastain or the University of Oklahoma regarding a commitment to the softball team. The chatter remains unconfirmed, but it’s clear that whatever sport she chooses, Chastain will be a high-impact player from day one.
